Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is Image Enhancement?
If you choose Image Enhancement, we will check the contrast and brightness levels, colour balance, focal point and image quality. We make adjustments where necessary to make sure your print is the best it can be. However, it is just an enhancement service and will not “fix” poor quality, low resolution or bad images. If in doubt please email the image across to us for checking.
Can I order custom sizes?
Yes, you can order whatever size you need. Just use the custom size option in the drop-down menu after you have uploaded your image. Make sure you choose inches OR cm’s correctly.
What is the maximum size you print to?
As a single print, the maximum size is 150cm (60") on the short edge. Our rolls are 30m long so there isn’t really a restriction on the long edge. However, the image quality has to be high to support large sizes. We can offer larger areas (e.g. 4.5m x 2.7m) on several panels. For these large sizes, the best option to choose is wallpaper. The largest single panel canvas we can print is 182 x 142 (72" x 56"). Larger sizes can be created on split panels. Please contract us for details.
Why are some areas of my image missing in the preview?
Our crop tool will show how your picture will look at the size you have chosen. If areas are missing it’s because the size and shape you need is different to the size and shape of the original image. For instance, if you upload a rectangular image and choose a square size, you will be shown how the image looks square with the edges cropped off. You can move the image around in the crop box to get the areas you want into the main print. If this isn’t possible then you need to choose a different size.
Why can’t I see my preview before ordering?
If the file you have uploaded is a pdf, png (with an unflattened layer) or a word document, as these are not true image files (like jpg, tiff etc), then the preview will not be shown. If you email the file across to us, we will convert it into a file you can use and get a preview with.
Will this image be bad quality?
Our checking system should alert you to lower quality files but, if we feel that it will not turn out well, we will contact you. However, as the website can’t actually “see” your picture, it will not pick up out of focus/blurred files. If in doubt, please email it across to us for checking.
I’ve got a very old photo, can this be printed?
If you have access to a scanner, either at home, work or through friends or family, scan the image(s) in at 600dpi (resolution) and save as .jpg file(s). Make sure you wipe over the scanner bed first to remove minute particles of dust that will show up on the print. Email the file(s) across to us and let us know what size you would like and what you would like them printed onto. If you don’t have access to a scanner then send it to the address on our contact page and include a covering note with the information as requested above and your contact details. It is wise to send it Special Delivery with Royal Mail so it is trackable.
What is professional restoration?
This is where we repair (where possible) an old, ripped or damaged, scanned photo.
What is the difference between satin, gloss and Celebration matte poster papers and what is the Fine Art paper?
Satin is a semi-matte finish photographic paper and gloss is a shiny finish photographic paper. Celebration Matte poster paper has a flat matte finish suitable for disposable party posters. Fine Art paper is a flat matte, textured archival paper suitable for high-end photography and framing.
What are the weights of each paper?
Satin and gloss papers are 260gsm bright white paper. Celebration matte poster paper is 180gsm paper. The Fine Art paper is a 300gsm cotton fibre based archival paper.
What paper do I choose if I am framing the picture myself?
Choose satin for framing as it has less shine and therefore glare in the frame than gloss paper.
Wallpaper
Is your wallpaper self-adhesive?
Yes, our wallpaper has intelligent pressure sensitive adhesive which makes installation simple to complete. The unique properties of the adhesive also mean that a print can even be removed from one location and then the same print can be repositioned in a new space – providing the adhesive is kept clean.
How big will each wallpaper panel be?
Full sized strips will be 104cm (41”) wide and whatever drop has been ordered. The final panel will be the size required to give you the finished width ordered.
How do I measure for wallpaper?
Please measure the area you want to cover (w x h) and add an extra 5-10cm on both the width and height for discrepancies in the wall size.
